When the gang arrived in Heyno town, Hector was away from his post at the gym, dealing with a trouble maker on the outskirts of town who was causing danger in the local hive. With the help of the Professor, her assistant and the gang, the trouble making Pokemon, a wild Pinsir, was taken care of, and with the trouble taken care of, he went back to the gym and accepted the gang's challenge.
Upon the gang's arrival, they each challenged Hector to battles, first he battled Alex and his Pikachu and Oshawott, then Owen and his Shroomish and Mudkip, then Luke and his Pansear and Meinfoo, and then Daniel and his Togepi and Turtwig, however he fell to all of them
